Opera Atelier: Together/Apart

Opera Atelier is thrilled to announce Together/Apart - a one-hour virtual showcase of music and dance to connect, uplift, and inspire - featuring an all-star line-up of Opera Atelier’s longstanding and audience-favourite artists from around the globe. All 14 artists on the program have personally curated their performance selections with an eye to sharing the joy and power of the creative experience during this extraordinary time.

Together/Apart will premiere on this page on Wednesday, May 20 2020, at 8PM ET.

Co-Artistic Directors Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg will host Together/Apart from their own living room in Toronto - introducing and connecting audiences to the artists they love and admire. Audiences can also expect a special guest-appearance by Toronto’s own Mayor John Tory. The complete line-up for Together/Apart will include:

Purcell's King Arthur

Purcell’s semi-opera based on Dryden’s text draws the eye and ear with richly textured choral movements and beautiful songwriting. Hear Purcell’s famous ‘Fairest Isle’ and ‘Cold Genius’ as the versatile young harpsichordist/conductor Christopher Bagan leads the Collegium Musicum and Schola Cantorum. Through a new staging by director Erik Thor, the audience is asked to consider our national identity and the conflict of ideologies of our own time.

The TCC is honoured to join forces with the legendary Nathaniel Dett Chorale! This uplifting evening will present gems from the TCC’s early music repertoire thematically intertwined with the NDC’s glorious repertoire of Afrocentric music. The two choirs will join forces in double-choir music by Dett, Gabrieli, and others. The evening will also offer us the opportunity to celebrate the release of A Voice of Her Own, the TCC’s new CD.
